Yarm 1914

Killed in action 14 Apr 1918 aged 18. Youngest son of Mrs E Johnson of Lord Nelsons Yard, Yarm. He had been born in Stockton and enlisted in Durham in Mar 1918. He had only been in action for eleven days. Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium

Yarm1914 believe that Frank was born in 1899 when the family lived in Stainsby's yard in Yarm. His father Thomas was a 42 year old bricklayer, born in Yarm and his mother Elizabeth was aged 35 and born in Dover. At that time they had 1 daughter Jane aged 10 and 5 other sons Thomas 14, Christopher 12, Charles 8, Gordon 6 and George 3. In 1901 George was in a fever hospital in Stockton but had returned to the family by 1911 which had moved to a three roomed house in Lord Nelson's Yard. It will have been very cramped because although Chistopher had got married to Emmalinda and living in Hauxwell Yard and Jane had died, there were two more daughters, a son and a granddaughter present in the house. Frank was still at school aged 12. When he signed up he joined 9th Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment. 33236 Pte before moving to 1st Northumberland Fusiliers 65175.
